Unique Case Study: Government of Bihar using GIS to monitor pressure on Embankments (EAMS)

Water Resource Department of Government of Bihar has recently launched online portal for Embankment Asset Management System (EAMS). This is unique case study of how GIS is being used in monitoring the pressure at every kilometer on Bagmati and Kosi River Embankments. Detailed article can be referred at below link:

Time of India Article: EAMS BiharEAMS is an enterprise GIS application which has basic GIS features combining advance features like bi-directional integration with SMS gateway to ‘send & receive’ the input from community.  EAMS also integrates with “Mobile App” developed on Android for activity update from field.

Initiative of Government of Bihar in this direction is commendable and I hope other state also follow the Government of Bihar model to create GIS based decision making and monitoring system for effective monitoring of floods.

In my opinion, if such system are maintained properly and data updates happens regularly then only effectiveness of system can be appreciated by various stakeholders involved including community.
