GeoNode is an open-source geospatial content management system platform for viewing and sharing geospatial data. It is an open source initiative product and powered by World Bank, OpenGeo which brings a stable open-source GIS software platform to create & view interactive maps along with easy-to-use interface.
The main goal of GeoNode is to give a modern GIS platform for sharing geo-spatial data, collaboration and promoting to data exchange.
Basically GeoNode is built up on open source cross platforms like GeoServer, GeoNetwork, Django and GeoExt and provides a platform for visualization and analysis of GIS data-sets. It supports facilities for data sharing, data styling, data tagging, mapping, collaborating, distribution and data collection.

Out of box functionalities offered by Geonode:
⦁ Upload Layers : GeoNode allows users to upload and share geospatial data, widely as well as securely. Data is available for browsing, editing, searching, styling, collaborating and processing to generate maps which can be shared through publicly or some restricted to specific users only. Any user can upload layers and make content available via standard OGC protocols such as Web Map Service (WMS) and Web Feature Service (WFS).
For uploading layers, click on Upload Layers, and select the shapefile and then upload it.
⦁ Create Maps : Geonode also allows users to create and share web maps. GeoNode comes through helpful cartography tools for editing the core style and composing maps manually. This type of tools make GeoNode easy to use for anyone to understand a web-based mapping application with GIS functionality, which works on desktop GIS applications.
To create a maps inside GeoNode, choose layers from layers section and based on these layers you can create your own map.
⦁ Upload Documents : User can uploaded associated documents related with layers or maps through Documents tab. Once uploaded, the documents can be made visible or restricted depends on users permission.
⦁ User Management : From the prospective of User Management, users can upload layers, create maps, upload documents, share maps through GeoNode.
⦁ Cataloguing & Searching : Based on Search text field people can search layers, maps or documents available in the GeoNode.
⦁ Registration: It has a registration module which allows the user registration/authentication process.
