With the success of previous two editions of the mApp Your Way Contest, Esri India has proudly launched the 3rd edition of the contest. The last two editions witnessed enthusiastic young students coming up with enthralling and refreshing new ideas based on the geospatial technology. Their innovative applications were showcased at Esri India User Conference which is attended by who and who of the geospatial industry.
mApp Your Way Contest is a great platform for students (including students from universities in Nepal and Bhutan) to not only show their application but also get acquainted and mentored by the industry veterans themselves.

What Is It About?
mApp Your Way is an application (mobile or web) development challenge, organized by Esri India, that provides young students the opportunity to explore the GIS domain and infuse their application ideas onto it. Any student of institutes that use geospatial technology/ArcGIS per say, can participate in the contest and propagate their idea (provided it fits into the themes) in the world of geospatial industry.
mApp Your Way gives the students and institutes a chance to showcase their skills and capabilities in the niche domain of GIS, to a wider industry focused audience. The new GIS application ideas coming out of the fresh young minds prove to be fruitful for the GIS industry as well as encourage the students to pursue and explore the technology more.

The winners of mApp Your Way 2017 contest were announced at the 17th Esri India User Conference, New Delhi. Lets’ dive into the winners view of the contest.
The Success Stories …
The winners, on winning the contest, Ankit Prashnani, from Team CEPT Connect said,
“This has been an incredible learning experience for us. We started by developing this application as a school project but after winning this contest we are really encouraged to take this to a wider audience. We saw students from various disciplines like arts, environmental sciences, computer technologies come together and leverage Esri India’s various free and easy-to-use ArcGIS tools to create some very innovative solutions, and the experience was truly very enriching.”
Team CEPT Connect members were Ankit Prashnani, Dhwani Tiwari and Arun Rathod from CEPT University, Ahmedabad who were mentored by their professor Dr. Anjana Vyas, Faculty of Technology, from the same university.
She added, “Esri India’s ‘mApp your way challenge’ is an excellent experience for students to learn and explore opportunities in the geo-spatial technology development space. Students across various disciplines like civil engineering, Engineering in Electronics and Communications, Information Technology exhibited excitement towards this challenge, formed teams and made solutions to solve real life problems using GIS technology. The experts from ESRI India extended exceptional support to the students throughout the challenge and exposure to Esri’s SDK’s (Software Development Kits). This process enhanced the knowledge and the level of confidence of the students in geospatial applications and development.”
Team CEPT Connect developed a fresh and innovative mobile application that can connect campus students to share accommodation & transportation needs, using crowd sourced GIS data and location intelligent search queries. The application also complimented the theme of the conference which was GIS: Enabling Transformation.
The First Runner Up of the contest was UPES Dehradun who developed a very innovative application as well. Their application was Nearby Authorized Parking Locator which helps find and locate the parking slots available in the selected region. It also helps establish a database relation/link between parking lots, app database, user location and user preference.
The Second Runner Up of the contest was PEC University of Technology for its app that locates toilets in nearby vicinity of the user. This app will help deal with the problem of open defecation in view of Swacch Bharat mission.
Esri India – Back with mApp Your Way 3.0!
With the success of previous two editions mApp Your Way Contest is back with version 3.0. So, get in gear and start by submitting your idea in phase 1 of the contest. Last Date for submitting abstracts – 15th April, 2017.
How to Participate?
Participation is easy and starts with filling out this registration form. Students of any university that uses Geospatial Technology/ArcGIS Technology can participate in the contest, which also includes universities in Nepal and Bhutan.
The Contest runs in three phases namely,
Phase 1 – Idea Submission and Selection
Students/Institutes interested in participating just need to form a team of 2 to 4 students and email their app idea/abstract alongside the complete registration form at firstname.lastname@example.org before 15th April, 2017.

A college can form any number of teams.
Phase 2 – App Development and screening
During this phase, the shortlisted teams will develop apps on Esri’s ArcGIS platform. Esri India will provide a temporary software license (one per team) for app development. Esri India will also provide a mentorship to the teams for clearing any doubts or queries. Last Date for submission of apps – 15th September, 2017.

Phase 3 – National Level Presentation and Final Judgement
The finalists will present their apps at the Esri India User Conference, held in Delhi.
The apps will be judged by a panel of eminent jury from Esri India, academia and industry. The three best applications will receive a certificate and prize money. In addition, trophies will be awarded to the respective institutes of the winning teams along with a memento to the guiding faculty.
